Caroline O’Hara

Caroline O’Hara

Registered Acupuncturist

Practicing since 2014

Caroline has had a life-long interest in human nature and health care. She earned a degree in Psychology from Mount Allison University and a diploma in Social Services from Seneca College, graduating with honors from both programs.

After spending a few years working in the mental health field, she realized she wanted a more individualized and personal approach to health care. While searching for a more wholistic approach to physical and mental health care, Caroline discovered that Traditional Chinese Medicine, and acupuncture in particular, was exactly what she was seeking.

In 2013, Caroline completed her Diploma of Acupuncture from Pacific Rim College with high honors, and became a Registered Acupuncturist in April of 2014. Caroline strives to maintain the holistic nature of Traditional Chinese Medicine by treating each patient as individuals with their own unique symptoms and circumstances. She has a special interest in the relationship between physical pain and mental/emotional well-being, and often helps patients explore how their emotions and their body effect each other.
Caroline has developed a gentle needling technique in order to provide her patients with the most comfortable treatment experience possible. She recognizes that for many people acupuncture is an unfamiliar treatment type; she strives to explain to her patients exactly what treatment will entail, how it will feel, and what the intended results of treatment will be so that every patient enters into treatment fully understanding what to expect.
She is experienced in the treatment of both chronic and acute pain management, stress/anxiety management, hormonal imbalances, insomnia, digestive complaints, fertility concerns, allergy management, and mental and emotional well being. Caroline practices both Traditional Chinese acupuncture and Five Elements acupuncture.

She is proud to be the recipient of several nominations and awards for Victoria Votes, having placed from Silver to Platinum, over several years, in the category of “Best Acupuncturist”.

Caroline is currently accepting new patients.

Massage Therapy for Migraines

Massage Therapy for Migraines

Massage Therapy for Migraines in Victoria, BC

Migraines are more than just headaches—they are a neurological condition that can significantly impact daily life. At Remedy Wellness Centre in Victoria, BC, massage therapy is used as part of a holistic approach to help reduce migraine frequency, intensity, and associated muscle tension.

Understanding Migraines

Migraines are intense, throbbing headaches often accompanied by symptoms such as:

  • Sensitivity to light and sound
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Visual disturbances or aura
  • Dizziness or tingling in extremities

Research suggests migraines involve nerve pathways and brain chemicals, and may be influenced by both genetics and environmental factors (Migraine Research Foundation).

Common triggers include weather changes, stress, poor posture, muscle tension, certain foods, sleep changes, hormonal shifts, and environmental stimuli. Identifying triggers and managing stress are key to reducing migraine attacks.

How Massage Therapy Can Help

Massage therapy is effective in managing migraine symptoms because it:

  • Reduces muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back
  • Promotes relaxation and decreases stress levels
  • Desensitizes the nervous system

By addressing these physical and neurological factors, massage therapy can help prevent migraines before they start, making attacks less frequent and intense (Golden, L., PharmD, Current Therapies for Migraine, 2021).

Massage Techniques for Migraine Relief

At Remedy Wellness, our RMTs may use techniques such as:

  • Swedish Massage: Long, gentle strokes that relieve muscle tension and induce relaxation
  • Deep Tissue Massage: Focused pressure to release chronic tension in tight areas
  • Trigger Point Therapy: Targeting hyperactive muscle knots that can refer pain to the head
  • Myofascial Release: Gentle manipulation to reduce fascial restrictions that contribute to headache pain

These approaches are personalized based on your specific needs, helping to restore balance and reduce migraine triggers.

Integrating Massage into Your Wellness Routine

Regular massage therapy, combined with home-care strategies like stretching, posture correction, and mindfulness exercises, can empower you to manage migraines more effectively. While there is no cure for migraines yet, reducing stress and muscle tension is a proven way to decrease both the frequency and severity of attacks (Migraine Research Foundation).
