    Brett McInnes

    Brett McInnes

    Registered Massage Therapist

    Practicing since 2017

As an RMT, Brett has never stopped learning new skills and techniques to further hone his craft. He is passionate about evidence-based and assessment-based treatment, and aims to help his patients manage the stress, pain, and bodily dysfunction that we all experience as part of everyday life. He looks forward to working with motivated individuals who actively participate in their health, both in and out of the treatment room.

The primary focus of Brett’s practice is Manual Lymphatic Drainage, however, he is also skilled with applying more traditional techniques including:

    • General Swedish
    • Myofacial work, including trigger point release
    • Joint mobilizations (when indicated)
    • Providing individualized home care in the form of therapeutic exercises to prolong the benefits of massage treatment, and encourage strength and flexibility.

He began training in Dr. Vodder’s Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) technique in 2022, and he was instantly impressed with the restorative results that it produces with light touch and minimal pressure. He has now completed Level 3 Manual Lymphatic Drainage, which allows him to work with Lymphedema.

MLD is incorporated into most of Brett’s sessions when indicated. Some of its many benefits include:

    • Softening areas of tense and fibrous muscle tissue, like conventional massage techniques can also accomplish
    • Decreasing pain
    • Promoting relaxation by decreasing activation of the sympathetic nervous system
    • Redirecting the flow of lymph to promote health and optimal function

You might already be used to the effects of a deeper, oil-based massage, but MLD is oilless and very superficial by design. The delicate lymph vessels become closed off and cannot be properly drained if the practitioner uses deep pressure. Even if you are an advocate for deep pressure, he strongly recommends that you give it a try via treatment in at least one area of the body per session: you might be surprised by how effective such a gentle technique can be!

In Brett’s free time, he is a musician who studies and performs the music of the Early Modern era. He also loves to learn about ancient cultures, especially their games and their food.
